Reese Witherspoon showers praise on Selena Gomez at the SAG Awards: ‘Your new song and video is so good!’

As the women crossed paths on the red carpet, the 47-year-old Legally Blonde star had nothing but praise for the singer, 31, who dropped her flirty new single Love On earlier this week.

‘Your new song and video, so good,’ the mom-of-three, who was rocking a strapless red gown from Elie Saab’s spring 2024 haute couture collection, gushed as Gomez approached her for a hug at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

The remark made the Only Murders in the Building beam from ear to ear, and the pair exchanged a warm embrace.

Witherspoon proceeded to place both hands on her hips and took a closer look at her pal’s face.

After studying Gomez’s expression, the Oscar winner told Gomez: ‘You look happy.’

The Disney Channel alum nodded enthusiastically, before Witherspoon said she could ‘feel’ the joy radiating from her.

While Gomez did not say what was making her so happy, the performer recently said her love life has never been better amid her relationship with boyfriend Benny Blanco.

On Friday, the two-time Grammy nominee opened up about their romance, which they kept hidden for six months, during an interview with Zane Lowe, released Friday.

‘Without getting into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone that respects you, and I think it’s really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in,’ the Rare Beauty founder said.

Gomez confirmed her relationship with Blanco in early December, revealing they had been quietly dating for six months.

In the past few months, the couple have not shied away from stepping out together on a number of occasions, including attending the Golden Globes together, Emmy Awards and a sitting courtside at a Lakers game last month.

Additionally, they have both made a habit of sharing loved-up pictures on social media.

Recently, she has been showing off a diamond-encrusted ‘B’ initial on her finger, in tribute to her new man.

Selena was previously linked to Zayn Malik and Andrew Taggart from The Chainsmokers and famously dated Justin Bieber on and off from 2009 until early 2018, and The Weeknd in 2017.

Meanwhile, he previously dated Elsie Hewitt, who he seemingly met on the set of his and Juice WRLD’s 2019 music video for Graduation.

Gomez fiercely defended their relationship in December after fans accused him of ‘shading’ her in the past.

Selenators were particularly angered by a resurfaced interview where Benny appeared to call her a ‘cookie-cutter pop artist’ while praising her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.

‘Like you know, they’re like, ‘this is my new single and here’s my makeup line,’ he told podcast host Zach Sang in 2020.

Though that could easily be a jab at Gomez — who owns the makeup brand Rare Beauty —she appears unbothered.

As one fan slammed her as ‘corny’ for sticking by him despite the shade, Gomez replied: ‘Lol yeah and he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with. Facts’

She also told another upset fan, who said Blanco has ‘cursed’ the star, that ‘he has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me.’

The Disney Channel alum concluded it with: ‘The end.’

But Gomez’s replies didn’t stop there.

One fan penned a lengthy comment accusing Gomez of always choosing to date ‘crusty, problematic music men.’

They believe she should go after someone who is ‘a rich, educated, mature handsome man that would treat her with love and respect, share her same values and life goals.’

Gomez said the analysis of herself and Blanco was ‘so off.’

She then fired back at a rude troll who suggested that she ‘can’t get [a man] better’ than the music producer if she wanted to.

‘[LAUGHING EMOJI] I feel bad for you,’ Gomez wrote.

Selena vowed that she would ‘never be with a f**boy ever again’ — an apparent dig at ex Justin — thanks to over a decade of therapy.

Gomez said that if her fans ‘actually care about me’ that they will recognize that she is at her ‘happiest’ right now.

Since going public, they have both made a habit of sharing loved-up pictures on social media

‘If you don’t [care then] feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever,’ she wrote.

‘I’m done. If you can’t accept me at my happiest then don’t be in [my] life at all.’

Some wondered if Selena and Blanco’s surprise romance was just a publicity stunt.

She insisted: ‘Never trolling.’

Gomez then said she planned to leave Instagram ‘for a while’ — something she’s done several times in recent months — to focus on ‘work.’

She continued: ‘I just stand up for what I believe in I have no shame in doing that.

‘I love my fans more than anything in the world.’

In his virtual sit-down with Zach Sang, Blanco criticized his now-girlfriend in a thinly-veiled insult while declaring that Bieber is ‘not one of those cookie-cutter pop artists.’

He continued: ‘Justin’s like, ‘Yo. I have a pimple and I have anxiety today.’ He’s always been upfront about that stuff.

‘For me, I think he’s really falling into himself as an adult now. It’s brave to put this song out,’ he added.

Benny worked with Justin on his song Lonely, which was released in 2021.
