Lil Wayne says his mom asked him for a grandchild at age 14

Lil Wayne claims that his mother asked him for a grandchild when he was just 14 years old.

At the Recording Academy Honors ceremony on Thursday, February 2, Lil Wayne gave a moving speech in honor of his Global Impact Award, which was given to him by the Black Music Collective. A tearful-eyed Lil Wayne focused heartfeltly on his mother, Jacida Carter, and his upbringing after thanking God, the Recording Academy, and the other music business professionals for the accolade.

The famous New Orleaner clarified that it is “not supposed” for someone from his upbringing to receive a distinction such as the Global Impact Award. Additionally, Lil Wayne revealed that his mother, whom he lovingly calls “Cita,” was so lonely when he initially went on tour as a young adolescent that she begged him for a grandchild to keep her company.

Watch Weezy’s moving recollection of “I walked into my mama’s room when I was 14” in the video below. “My dad was killed, so she asked me if I wanted a child.” We had no idea that her son would be gone for six months, and he had just blown up and started his first tour. She told me, “Son, I can’t live in this house by myself,” when I got home. We will need to come up with a solution.”

The “Love Me” rapper thanked Cash Money Records and Young Money executive Mack Maine, among other figures from both his personal and hip-hop lives, for helping him pave the road as he concluded his acceptance speech.

Lil Wayne added, “I’d also like to thank Cash Money Records.” “Coming from New Orleans, Cash Money Records was, and this is before Universal, this is before any nationwide deal, Cash Money was [like] if you was from Dallas and you just got signed to the Cowboys.”

Weezy and two other legendary figures in the rap industry, Missy Elliot and Dr. Dre, were presented with the Record Academy’s Global Impact award on Thursday. Sylvia Rhone, a board member of the XXL Awards, who was chosen to lead Epic Records in 2019 and is credited as becoming the first female CEO of a major record label, was also awarded the prize.

A number of Lil Wayne’s remarkable contributions to hip-hop culture were noted by the Recording Academy when they announced him as one of the 2023 recipients of the Global Impact Award on their website.
