Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle and More Take Viewers to the ’70s in Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist Teaser

The limited series will premiere on Peacock Sept. 5

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have come together to bring Peacock’s newest series to life.

Based on the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast of the same name, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist follows the aftermath of a robbery that took place after Muhammad Ali’s historic victory against Jerry Quarry on Oct. 26, 1970.

“When a hustler named Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) hosts an afterparty to celebrate the fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history,” a synopsis explains.

“Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, who is tasked with bringing those responsible to justice,” the synopsis continues.

Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard star alongside Hart and Cheadle. Guest stars include Chloe Bailey, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Dexter Darden, Lori Harvey and Sinqua Walls.

Peacock’s newly released teaser for the star-filled series shows an eventful party, which Chicken Man describes in a voiceover as the “place you had to be.”

“This little shindig is just the beginning. When you bring together all the baddest mothers around, something’s bound to go down,” he adds as a group of masked gunmen are seen forcing themselves into the party.

After the words “based on some s–t that really happened” flash on the screen, the clip flashes to cops arriving at the scene.

Hart, who is also an executive producer on the series, described his character to Vanity Fair as a “dreamer.”

“A dream isn’t just a dream; a dream is real, and something others will later discover if you do it correctly. And Chicken Man is a dream,” he said.

Fellow executive producer Will Packer told the outlet that Chicken Man is “more vulnerable than any character that Kevin has ever played before.”

“Chicken Man loves the streets because they feed him. He’s a numbers runner, and in order to be good at that, you’ve got to know people—be charismatic, be fast-talking,” he told the outlet. “So when he gets into a place where his street life [and] his home life are all at odds, he is forced to take an unflinching look at himself and who he is in the mirror. It’s tough.
